Carême indexes your cookbooks. This page says what we collect and what happens to it.

What we store

  • Your email address and sign-in details, stored with our database provider, Supabase.
  • Your library: books, recipe indexes, notes, ratings, collections and shopping lists.
  • Photos of cookbook index pages that you scan, and recipe photos you add. Shelf photos are sent for scanning but are not kept.

Photos and AI

When you scan a bookshelf or an index page, the photo is sent to an AI provider, Anthropic (the makers of Claude), so it can read the book titles or recipe names. Some features also send recipe text to an AI provider to generate or tidy an index. Anthropic processes these requests to return a result to us. We do not use your photos to build a public gallery.

No sale of data

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.

Other services

We look up book details from Google Books, Open Library and the Library of Congress. Only book details such as a title or ISBN are sent, not your account information.

Deleting your account

To delete your account and your data, email us from the address on your account and ask for deletion. We will remove your account, library and uploaded photos. You can also delete individual books, notes and photos inside the app at any time.
